Who is a Candidate for Scar Revision?

Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of a scar from a previous injury or surgery or who have functional issues related to scarring can benefit from scar revision. Before choosing scar revision, the incision or laceration should be fully healed. Scar revision is suitable for patients of any age.

How Does Scar Revision Work?

Depending on the size of the scar and the method chosen, you may receive local, general, or IV sedation before your scar revision.

For patients with depressed areas from their scars, injectable fillers may be used to minimize the appearance. Dermal fillers in Beverly Hills include hyaluronic acid-based products such as Juvéderm or Restylane. These are injected into the treatment area to temporarily restore volume and fill in sunken areas.

Alternatively, your own fat can be used for depressed areas in scars.  First, fat is harvested through liposuction. The fat is then specially prepared and then transferred to minimize the depressed areas.  Fat transfer is a more permanent solution than fillers.

For some other patients, chemical peels can be used to reduce scarring and irregular texture on the face. This is especially useful for patients dealing with acne scars.

Many scar revision patients require surgical removal of the scar tissue. To complete this procedure, Dr. Ourian will make an incision to remove the scar, then use advanced, layered suture techniques. This allows the skin to heal with a more subtle, inconspicuous scar in its place.

What is Scar Revision Recovery Like?

If your scar revision requires surgery, you can expect the incision to take about two weeks to heal. Dr. Ourian will advise you of his scar care regimen during the healing process thereafter.

Chemical peels involve some swelling and discomfort during the healing process. Most patients require about a week of healing after a chemical peel, depending on the type of peel they’ve received.

Injectable fillers require no downtime, but some minor swelling or redness at the injection site are normal. These should subside within 24 hours.

Fat transfer typically requires anywhere from 3 to 7 days for recovery.

How Much Does Scar Revision in Beverly Hills Cost?

The cost of your scar revision procedure will vary depending on the method chosen to complete your procedure, the extent of the scar, and other factors. Dr. Ourian will give you a more specific cost estimate for your scar revision procedure after a complimentary consultation.
