Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of a scar from a previous injury or surgery or who have functional issues related to scarring can benefit from scar revision. Before choosing scar revision, the incision or laceration should be fully healed. Scar revision is suitable for patients of any age.
How Does Scar Revision Work?
Depending on the size of the scar and the method chosen, you may receive local, general, or IV sedation before your scar revision.
For patients with depressed areas from their scars, injectable fillers may be used to minimize the appearance. Chemical peels involve some swelling and discomfort during the healing process. Most patients require about a week of healing after a chemical peel, depending on the type of peel they’ve received.
Injectable fillers require no downtime, but some minor swelling or redness at the injection site are normal. These should subside within 24 hours.
Fat transfer typically requires anywhere from 3 to 7 days for recovery.
