Dr. Ourian’s signature Beverly Hills vein treatment is achieved through a process known as sclerotherapy or hypertonic saline. This is a relatively simple nonsurgical procedure which reduces the appearance of smaller varicose and spider veins.
How Does Varicose & Spider Vein Treatment Work?
To eliminate spider veins, Dr. Ourian will inject the vein with hypertonic saline, which is a concentrated salt solution also known as a sclerosing solution. As a result, the lining of the vein becomes irritated and the body eventually replaces the damaged blood vessel with a scar, which is not visible on the skin’s surface.
Sclerotherapy can cause itching, irritation, or a burning sensation upon injection. For this reason, Dr. Ourian may use lidocaine or another method of pain management to keep you comfortable through the procedure. However, some patients feel no pain at all and can easily tolerate sclerotherapy. Dr. Ourian may instruct you to wear compression stockings following your treatment.
