Who is a Good Candidate for Lip Lift?

The typical lip lift candidate has thinner-looking lips and wishes to decrease the length of the philtrum, or the section of skin between the nose and upper lip. They may prefer a more natural and subtle look than they could achieve from lip fillers or augmentation, or have grown tired of the upkeep required of repeated filler injection. Some lip lift candidates also find that their lips appear thinner as they have grown older, and wish to reduce this sign of aging. In order to undergo a lip lift, you should be generally healthy and a nonsmoker. Dr. Ourian will determine your candidacy after a thorough consultation.

How is Lip Lift Performed?

Our Beverly Hills lip lift is typically performed under local anesthesia. First, an incision is made between the nose and the mouth. The exact placement of the incision varies depending on your unique anatomy and the desired results. From this incision, a small section of skin in the shape of a handlebar will be removed to shorten the length of the area between the upper lip and nose for a more youthful, rejuvenated upper lip. After this is complete, the incisions will be closed with sutures.

What is Lip Lift Recovery Like?

After your Los Angeles lip lift, you can expect some swelling and a tightening sensation in the treatment area. Sutures will remain in place for about five days after the surgery, and most experience swelling for about one to two weeks. Some redness at the incision sites may persist for up to six to eight weeks after the surgery, while the scar is healing. Dr. Ourian will advise when you can return to normal activities after the procedure and monitor your healing through postoperative appointments.
