Who is a Good Candidate for Men’s Liposuction?

Before you choose to undergo male liposuction in Beverly Hills, you should understand that this is not a weight-loss procedure. Through liposuction, fat cells are permanently removed, but men should be within 30% of their ideal, healthy weight before choosing the procedure. Liposuction is also only suitable for patients who have firm skin with good elasticity. Men have thicker skin compared to women, so this is typically not a concern. Otherwise, Beverly Hills liposuction candidates should be generally healthy overall and, ideally, nonsmokers.

How is Liposuction for Men Performed?

Dr. Ourian’s Beverly Hills liposuction for men can be performed under general or local anesthesia depending on the extent of the procedure. Once anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Ourian makes small, 5-millimeter incisions at the treatment area. A cannula is then inserted into the incision, which is used to manually break apart the excess fat using controlled motions and a saline solution called tumescent. Then, the fat is permanently removed using suction and incisions are closed using sutures.

Liposuction can be performed to remove fat in virtually any area of the body. The most commonly treated areas are:

  • Neck and under the chin
  • Abdomen or stomach liposuction
  • Back, commonly called the “back rolls”
  • Flanks, commonly called “love handles”
  • Waist
  • Hips
  • Inner thighs
  • Outer thighs
  • Knees
  • Calves

What is Liposuction Recovery Like?

After liposuction, men can expect swelling, mild bruising, and soreness. Compression garments are used to control swelling and maintain the proper body contour throughout the healing process. Dr. Ourian will provide instructions on how long or how frequently compression garments should be worn.

Due to swelling, final results from liposuction are not immediately visible. Swelling typically subsides for up to 6 months or more after liposuction, which reveals the final results of the surgery.

Most men can return to work or other routine activities about a week after liposuction, depending on how physically demanding their jobs are. More strenuous activity, including exercise, should be avoided until about three to four weeks after the procedure. Dr. Ourian will monitor your healing through follow-up appointments and advise when you can safely return to your routine.
